What to ask before you undergo an evaluation
Taken together, the answers to these questions should give you sufficient confidence that the evaluator will properly conduct the exam and assess the results.
Credentials, Experience and References
| • | Is he or she qualified to do the evaluation and to interpret the results? |
| • | Does the evaluator know the guidelines that the testing boards use to assess test-takers' eligibility for accommodations? (The criteria in Israel generally differ from those in the U.S.) |
| • | Does the evaluator know how the DSM-IV, the psychiatric manual, defines disabilities? |
| • | Similarly, does the evaluator understand how the Americans With Disabilities Act defines a disability? |
| • | Ask the evaluator to refer you to someone who has undergone testing with him or her. |
Testing tools and procedures
| • | Ensure that the examiner is using up-to-date testing tools that are properly normed, meaning that the tests are suitable for your age group. |
| • | Ensure that the format of the evaluation meets the requirements of the testing boards for the different exams (SAT, GMAT, etc.). |
